Transferring to the BSCS (SEAS)

Transfer Process

From another SEAS major: This simply requires filling out a change of major form from the SEAS office. Please see the BSCS - Declaring the Major info page.

From another UVA school: All transfers are handled through the SEAS office. Please see SEAS Internal Transfer Students for more information.

From another college/university: Transfers are first done through UVA Admissions. Please reach out to them for information about joining UVA. More info about SEAS can be found on the SEAS Transfer Information Page.

Course Matching

To see how your courses transfer, please see the following pages:

Note that it takes time to complete course evaluation, so please be patient. After your courses have been evaluated and put into Stellic, we recommend your first semester here look something like this:

  • Two CS courses, filling out all foundational courses first
    • If you have credit for CS 1110 only, take CS 2100 and CS 2120.
    • If you have credit for CS 2100, take CS 2120 and CS 2130.
    • If you have credit for CS 2100 and CS 2120, take CS 2130 and CS 3140.
    • If you have credit for all three 2000-leve courses, take CS 3140 and a CS elective that does not require CS 3140 (such as CS 3205 or CS 3710).
  • Your next APMA course, whatever that may be
  • Two SEAS requirements, which could include CHEM, PHYS, ENGR, Science Elective, or HSS

ENGR 1010 and ENGR 1020

Our Introduction to Engineering sequence has a few special rules for covering those classes, particularly for students who completed their associate’s degree at a VCCS institution. More info can be found under “ENGR 1010 an dENGR 1020 General Education Requirements” under the “Internal Transfers” section on the SEAS Transfer Information Page.
